The Marshall County Board of Education is now accepting registration for kindergarten students for the 2015-16 school year. Any child who is five years of age, or who may become five years of age by October 1, 2015 may enter the kindergarten program for the 2015-16 school year. The following information is needed when you contact the elementary school in your district: name of child, parents name, phone number, birth date, child's social security number and 911 address. The annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Honor Plaza at Mike Miller Park on U.S. 68 West in Draffenville will be Monday, May 25, at 11:00 am. Emcee is State Sen. Danny Carroll with the keynote speaker being Colonel Daub. Everyone is invited.

The 2015 Benton Cruise-In returns on Saturday, May 30, June 27, August 29 and September 26, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on the Benton Court Square. Live music, kids choice awards, 50/50 giveaway, goody bags, pin-up dolls, valve cover track and more. Registration of your hot-rod is free with a canned good donation to Marcella's Kitchen and/or Marshall County Needline.

Children's Day on the Farm at Land between the Lakes National Recreation Area's Homeplace 1880s Farm will be Saturday, May 30, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Admission is $5 ages 13 and up, $3 ages 5-12 and children 4 and under are free. Children will learn the importance of doing chores on an 1850s farm. Cruise & Crafts on Saturday, May 30, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at 120 East 12th Street in Benton (Republican Party Headquarters). There will be handmade crafts featuring: art work, embroidery, woodwork, purses, soaps, barnwood, wreaths crocheted items, jewelry, honey, denim crafts, blended oils and much more. This is a fundraiser for the Pat & Bobby Cole Scholarship Fund for senior girls attending high school in Marshall County.

The Aurora Community Park at 16191 U.S. Hwy 68 East in Hardin will host the 400 Mile Yard Sale on June 4, 5, 6 & 7. Sale times are 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Thursday-Saturday. The Deputy Roger Lynch Memorial Scholarship Fund is hosting an inaugural 5K Run/2 Mile Walk on Saturday, June 6, at the Livingston County Fairgrounds in Smithland. Registration starts at 7:00 am with the race at 8:00 am. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund. Early registration is $20, with a guaranteed shirt, or $25 the day of the event. In honor of National Trails Day, LBL invites the public to help with general trail maintenance on the Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail on Saturday, June 6, from 8:30 am to noon. You will meet at the Golden Pond Visitors Center and will need to bring lunch, water bottles and wear appropriate outdoor clothing.
