Marshall Co. branding initiative takes off

KLCVB

The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce has officially followed suit in the new branding initiative, changing their name to the Kentucky Lake Chamber of Commerce in Marshall County. This is the third local organization, including the offices of Tourism and Economic Development, to make the switch since branding survey results came back a few months ago. Tourism Director Randy Newcomb said the branding study indicated Kentucky Lake is the county's greatest asset. (Kentucky Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau; Updated: 12:57 pm, Tuesday)

Benton approves non-partisan ballot

At the last meeting of the Benton City Council, Mayor Steve Cary and members of the council unanimously passed a second reading of an ordinance that would make all city elections non-partisan. Previously, primary elections were held to determine Democratic and Republican nominees for various offices. Now, party affiliation will not be a factor. The ordinance goes into effect January 1, 2015. (Updated: 12:52 pm, Tuesday)

Solution proposed for Calvert interchange

A local lawmaker is expressing optimism that a new I-69 interchange won't cut off a route into Calvert City. The concern is over changes to the cloverleaf between the Purchase Parkway and I-24. State representative Will Coursey spoke with Kentucky Transportation and said the Cabinet heard our concerns and has come up with a solution that solves the problem. If approved, construction on the updated interchange could start next October. (Updated: 12:49 pm, Tuesday)
