Exceptional Presentation

As part of WCBL Radio's Open Line Coffee Call on Friday, Marshall County residents Dutch and Kay Zweedyk presented two donations to Marshall County non-profit organizations. Marcella's Kitchen, a free community kitchen that serves individuals at the Draffenville Lions Club building on Griggstown Road from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm weekdays, received $5,000. Additionally, the Marshall County Exceptional Center, who serves individuals with special needs by placing them in work environments to further advance them in their journey, received $25,000. 'Cram the Cruiser' nets 116 tons of food

Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer announced Thursday that the agency's 'Cram the Cruiser' food drive netted 232,011 pounds of food statewide. In western Kentucky, the troopers at Post 1 hauled in 34,000 pounds to supply local food banks this year. Brewer said the campaign has developed into a friendly competition among KSP posts to see which location can collect the most food. The Harlan Post is the reigning champion this year with a total of 43,825 pounds of food collected. Brewer initiated the program in 2010 to assist needy families in each post's local areas. Since that time, the agency has contributed more than 500,000 pounds of food to shelters, food banks and churches across Kentucky. (Updated: 9:14 am, Friday)
